Jefferson Depot Village Historic Guided Tours

Every Sunday (1-4 p.m.) June thru September

Travel back in time to a quaint, preserved "living history" village reminiscent of life in the 1800's. Costumed tour guides will show and tell you about the historic 1872 Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railroad Station, the quaint 1848 "Church in the Wildwood", the 1918 Red Caboose, the 1849 Church Barn, the 1838 Spafford One-Room schoolhouse, Hohn's Century General Store, the 1845 Sheffield Post Office, the 1860 Pharmacy containing the Jackson Drug Store Collection, the Benetka Blacksmith Shop, the 1888 Victorian House and Herb Garden.

The 19th Century Jefferson Depot Village will let you re-live the good ole days - your heritage! You can walk thru all the restored buildings while reminising about all the fun and excitement our ancestors enjoyed. 1890 school classes are being scheduled for April, May, and September for elementary students.

22nd Annual Strawberry Festival - Craft Bazaar - plus Tours of the 19th Century Village

June 20, 2009 Saturday (11 a.m. - 7 p.m.)

June 21, 2009 Sunday (Noon - 5 p.m.) 

Luscious strawberry shortcake plus talented craftsmen with creative hand-crafted treasures in the unique setting at the restored 1872 Railroad Station, 1848 "Church in the Wildwood", 1838 Spafford Schoolhouse, and other historic 19th Century Buildings. Ride in the horse-drawn "Surrey with the Fringe on Top", you'll enjoy the Spaghetti Dinner 5-7 p.m. Saturday in the Depot Baggage Room, Quilt show in the Church and demonstrations, Entertainment on the Bandstand: "Live Music" - Light Jazz by "Phido" Saturday at 2 p.m. Porter's Fun Bunch, 1:00 p.m. Sunday.  Tour thru the restored 19th century buildings, visit the Kid's Corner in the One-room Schoolhouse watch the Chocolate Fountain cover fresh strawberries, play a game of "Corn Hole, visit the Bake Sale in Hohn's General Store, plus taste lots of homemade food. "Antique and Classic Car Show" Sunday 1 to 4 p.m. Free Parking, Kids Free. 

Directions to Jefferson Depot Village: From I-90, south on I-11 to Rt. 46 South to Jefferson, East on East Walnut or East Jefferson Street. From I-11 North, exit on Rt. 307 West into Jefferson, then North on South Market St. to East Jefferson St., turn Right to 147 East Jefferson Street. A donation is requested. Annual Antique Car Show

Fabulous antique cars set the stage for a nostalgic look into the past as they are displayed in the unique setting at the restored historic 1872 Railroad station, the 1848 "Church in the Wildwood", and 1838 Spafford One-Room Schoolhouse. Fun for the whole family - Cars for Dad, Crafts for Mom, and Rides and Games for Kids, Strawberry Shortcake, Entertainment and Food for all!

"EARLY AMERICA LIVE"

July 18, 2009 (10a.m. to 5p.m.) and July 19, 2009 (noon to 5p.m.)

An 1890 reenactment at the historic 19th Century Jefferson Depot Village, 147 East Jefferson Street, Jefferson, Ohio, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Primitive Skills demonstrated on the grounds and in all the 1800's buildings.

Costumed kinfolk will re-create the "period" as you peek into the past. Early Crafts - Pottery, Basketry, Candlemaking, and more. Outdoor Cooking, Entertainment and Food for your enjoyment.

Heather Kitchen, Columbus, Ohio, will be dying raw wool into yarn. Dr. Richard Waters of Jefferson, Ohio will focus on primitive medical treatment and equipment. Reenactor Norma Waters will portray the role women played on the home front. Robin Gibson, Bland, Missouri, will be spinning alpaca which she is bringing from her Missouri Skies Alpaca Ranch. See the Spinning Wheel in the 1888 Victorian House, the Jackson Drugstore Collection in the 1860 pharmacy, the wall-hung flush tanks in the Ladies exclusive waiting room in the 1872 Depot, climb aboard the 1918 Tuscan Red PRR Caboose and experience the excitement of riding the rails.

Attend the 1890 class in the 1838 Spafford One-room Schoolhouse. Learn the basic customs and early lessons, readin', 'ritin', cipher math and Ohio history.


Traveling thru the woods, the circuit-rider minister will arrive on horseback Saturday around 11 a.m. to preach in the 1848 "Church in the Wildwood".   Listen to the old pump organ for hymn singing and a concert.

Come and make your own candle (the old way), play some early games, attend an 1890 school class and recess, enjoy live pump-organ music "Songs of Yesterday, the ones your Mother sang and your Dad whistled", Sunday, 2:00 p.m., Storytelling by Sue, Medicinal Herb Garden Tours. and more. Great authentic Food and Fun for the Whole Family! Your taste buds will be tempted when you look over the 19th Century Menu!

Wreath Workshop

December 1st, 2008. Learn to create a Williamsburg Wreath. Free instructions and materials furnished. Bring a pruning shears and come to Jefferson Depot Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. Please use East Walnut Street entrance.

December 8th, 2008. Learn to make a Christmas Centerpiece, Swags, Roping, at the Jefferson Depot at 7:30 p.m. Free instructions and materials furnished. Please bring a pruning shears.


"An Old-fashioned Williamsburg Christmas"

Sunday, December 14, 2008. At 3:00 p.m. the annual Old-fashioned Williamsburg Christmas offers Childrens activities galore! Amidst Williamsburg finery, fragrant wreaths on all the windows and doors, welcome candles, sugar and spice, come and enjoy horse-drawn sleighbell wagon rides, gather 'round the old piano for caroling'round the potbelly stoves. Create a Victorian ornament for the Community Christmas Tree, listen to Christmas stories, ice sculpture, break a candy-filled pinyata and more. Of course Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there plus punch and goodies. (Children must be accompanied by an adult) It's free and you're invited, compliments of Jefferson Depot members at 147 East Jefferson Street. Parking next door. Oh yes, please bring your own table service and something to share for the buffet.


"Reindeer Romp, Gingerbread Fantasy, Candlelight Walk thru the Historic 19th Century Village"

Sunday, December 14, 2008. Romp on down to the 19th Century Jefferson Depot Village for a fun-filled, fragrant Christmas Celebration. You'll think you're in Colonial Williamsburg as you start the "Candlelight Walk thru the Historic Village". It begins at the 1888 Victorian House (former M.E. Parsonage) at 5:00 p.m. The Christmas Buffet will be served from the Depot Baggage Cart at 6:00 p.m. with live music. (please bring a covered dish to share and your own table service.
